RIFTHP Mentor Network
The RIFTHP is committed to providing support for new teachers through effective mentoring. Since 1995, the RIFTHP and its local affiliates have been involved in the development and coordination of local mentoring programs. Recognized as a statewide leader in this type of support for new teachers, many RIFTHP locals have developed collaborative agreements with their districts and direct or co-direct their mentoring programs. The state federation hosts the RIFTHP Mentor Network, which meets regularly to share information about mentoring and to assist its local affiliates in developing strong programs.
The RIFTHP Mentor Network has created a "Guide to Effective Mentor Programs" that describes the essential elements of successful programs as well as a training program for mentors. Recently, the RIFTHP received a grant from the RI Department of Education to provide technical assistance to locals who are developing or strengthening their mentor programs in response to the Article 31 requirement that all districts provide a mentoring program for their new teachers.
